In the Ceremony

A common way to include pets in the wedding ceremony is by having them act as ring bearers or join the wedding party at the altar. Before you decide to go this route, check with your wedding venue to ensure that your pet will be allowed inside.

You’ll also need to take into account your pet’s temperament and ease around large groups of people. Is your pet a fixture at family gatherings, or does he hide away under your bed? If it’s the latter, he may not be equipped to handle the stress of participating in the ceremony. Remember, you want Rover to be as comfortable as possible so that he can enjoy your special day too.

At the Reception

If you elect not to include your pet in the ceremony itself, she can still hang out and celebrate at the reception. However, you may want to hire a pet sitter for the day to keep an eye on her so that you can enjoy yourself too. It’s a bit difficult to have a good time at your reception if you are constantly concerned that Fluffy is devouring your wedding cake or ripping apart your gifts. However, for a pet who is well-behaved in crowds, this can be a fun way for her to participate in an informal manner. Be sure to let your guests know that your pet will be there in case anyone has allergies or aversions to pets.
